Meet Noah, a mini-Golden Retriever mix available for adoption.

Here is what his friends at Worthy Dog Rescue have to say about him:

Meet Noah. This mini-Golden Retriever mix spent his entire life tied to a tree with an overturned plastic trash can as his only source of shelter. He was fed every other day and was lucky to get fresh water. This was a terribly lonely and neglectful life for Noah, but he has made an amazingly quick transition to home life, and is now soaking up lots of love and attention from his foster family.

Noah has had such a transformational past few weeks – he’s been groomed, spent time in doggy daycare, and received an A++ report card for how he interacted with the other dogs. He has taken on a love for toys and appreciates a comfy couch. He now gets daily walks, and gets very excited when it’s walk time, cherishing the opportunity to explore the outside world. He still pulls a little on leash, but this is all new to him and he’s learning.

He’s currently being fostered with another pup, Gracee, and does well sharing his toys, the couch, and his foster mom’s affection. He follows Gracee’s lead and has learned from her, and would do great with another dog buddy in his home. Noah has been around young kids and is very friendly, giving them a gentle sniff and allowing them to pet and love him. The neighbors have remarked at how sweet he is, and by nature Noah a very friendly dog. Some male strangers have given him pause, causing him to bark, but his friendship can be purchased with a few treats.

Noah’s foster mom describes him as curious, and says he doesn’t seem to have any fear when it comes to going to new places or doing new things. At home, he’s super snuggly and just loves to be acknowledged. When she tells him “enough” he will go lay down. He’s housetrained, and will wander into his crate to sleep during the day, but is not very fond of the door being closed, scratching to get out. That’s still a work in progress, but he learned “sit” in just a few days and is very smart and eager to please.

This gorgeous pup deserves a great life, and Worthy Dog Rescue is happy to help him find his way home. He has been fully vetted, treated for heartworm, and will be coming to N. VA on 9/9, so apply today!

Are you and Noah a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

The dog days of summer are coming to an end, and Reston’s four-legged residents need to get their last fun of the season in too.

For the second year, Reston Association will host its “Dog Paddle” event next weekend. It’s an opportunity for man’s best friends to splash in RA pools that have closed for the summer, community events supervisor Ashleigh Soloff said.

“[It’s] a super fun event,” she said.

About 70 canines participated in the event in 2016, Soloff said.

Appropriately enough, Dogwood Pool (2460 Green Range Road) will host the event Saturday, Aug. 26. The next day, the dogs will splash at North Hills Pool (1325 North Village Road) will welcome pets. Each day, the events will go from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

No people are permitted in the water with the dogs, and current dog licenses are required. Dogs must be kept under control and sociable at all times, and female dogs in heat will not be permitted.

Registration can be done through Reston Association’s WebTrac system or by calling 703-435-6531. Cost is $4 for dogs of Reston Association members and $6 for dogs of non-members.

Autumn is a sweet 1-year-old Norwich Terrier girl who loves playing with her toys and her canine and human friends here at the rescue. She’s affectionate, outgoing, and adorable! Just look at that face!

Everyone who meets Autumn loves her, from her spunky wire brindle coat down to those big brown eyes and sweet personality.

Meet Sis, an English Setter available for adoption.

Here is what her friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue have to say about her:

Sis is a gorgeous girl with a silky coat who is very inquisitive and interested in her surroundings. She’s affectionate to people and “mostly” comes when called. She gets along really good with other dogs.

Sis was owned by a hunter, who wanted her to be his hunting dog. Sis had other ideas. Her idea of life is to go for walks with her human, have a comfy doggie bed, and get lots of cuddles and kisses.

She’s a neat size — around 40 pounds, and walks nicely on a leash, but is still a little unsure with things like steps, etc., and hasn’t quite grasped that it’s actually OK for her to be inside. A little love and she’ll be an absolute prize.

If you think you can give this regal girl the kind of home she was born to have, please email [email protected] for an application.

Are you and Sis a match? If so, let us know and our sponsor, Becky’s Pet Care, will send you some treats and prizes.

Pet of the Week: Nico

This is a sponsored post from Becky’s Pet Care, a professional pet care service in Northern Virginia.

This week’s Reston Pet of the Week is Nico, now living in Reston after being brought up in Arizona.

Here is what his owner, Raj, had to say about him:

Meet Nico, a 10 ½-year-old Lhasa Apso, Miniature Poodle, Chihuahua and German Shepherd mix. You might take a look at Nico’s photos and wonder if this mix is possible, but he definitely has some German Shepherd in him. (In fact, he is 12.5 percent Alsatian according to a DNA test!)

Nico has led quite an uphill life. He was found as a little puppy running around on the streets of the Arizona-Mexico border. We saw him at the rescue shelter the day after he was brought in and adopted him immediately. He soon got accustomed to comfortable living. Everything was going great until after Nico turned 8, when his vet said that he needed to have neck surgery right away to remove fluid from his spine that was causing him a lot of pain whenever he moved. He was a very good boy through the difficult ordeal and came out healthier than ever!

Nico is now proud to call Reston his new home and is already enjoying the smells and sounds. His favorite activity — other than laying on the cool floor during the dog days of the Northern Virginia summer — is watching the golfers at Reston National.

A Tall Oaks Village Center business that is being uprooted by upcoming development won’t be moving far.

Pet grooming business Fur Factory, located on the lower level of the current village center at 12010-B North Shore Drive, will be moving across the plaza to the Tall Oaks Professional Building (12054 North Shore Drive). A permit application to lay out the new space was processed by Fairfax County earlier this week.

The Tall Oaks Professional Building is one of two buildings at the village center that will remain through the redevelopment. The two-story building is being expanded to include ground-floor retail plus additional office space.

A one-story building at 12056 North Shore Drive — which most recently housed Curves Fitness and, before that, 7-Eleven — is also staying in place but being built out. Construction activity is already taking place at that site. Paisano’s Pizza plans to move across the parking lot from its current location in the village center to that site this fall.

An employee at Fur Factory was unable Friday morning to provide any information about when the business is planning to make its move.

The redevelopment of the village center into a mixed-use development will include 156 homes, 8,500 square foot of retail and about 6,000 square feet of office space, as well as community space. It will go before Reston’s Design Review Board next week for conversation about details including landscaping, lighting, site amenities and architectural elevations.
