This week’s Pet of the Week is Sensational Sage, a Shiba Inu mix whose tail can never stop wagging.

Here’s what Safe Haven Puppy Rescue had to say about Sensational Sage:

Sage and his siblings Penny, Honey and Hickory are all friendly little pups whose tails never stop wagging. They’re just 9 weeks old and weigh 8 pounds or so. The online dog breed detector says Shiba Inu among other less likely breeds but these pups are clearly a delightful mix of many different breeds making them ALL AMERICAN mutt puppies!!! Any of these happy little pups will make their adopters terrific companions!!! Sage is up to date on her vaccinations and dewormings and carries an adoption fee of $389 which includes his microchip.

Meet Morris, Reston’s latest Pet of the Week. This big guy may look macho, but he’s really a gentle sweetheart.

Here’s what his friends at Fancy Cats Rescue Team had to say about him:

Morris looks like a burly macho man, but he’s really a lover boy. You can pick him up and cuddle with him; he will sit on your lap and make biscuits. In short, he’s an absolute sweetheart!

In addition to hanging out with people, he also loves to play with cat teasers. He came to us from the Tri-County Animal Shelter.

Are you and Morris the perfect match?

After eight years of living alone outside, Bear is eager to be part of a family. He loves to snuggle, lie in the sun and play with stuffed animals.

Here’s what Bear and his friends at Puppy Paws Rescue had to say about him:

Hi! I’m Bear! I’m a 9-year-old dog with a youthful, playful personality who will win you over with my snuggle skills. If there were cuddle championships, everyone would need to watch out!

I have three favorite hobbies: my daily walks where I get to sniff all the things, my snuggle sessions (I will straight up launch myself into that couch) and, of course, dinnertime. I have a little extra heft, or “love” as my foster family calls it. I’ve been working it off, but it makes for even better snuggles. Did I mention how good I am at cuddling?

I would fit best in a house with other dogs, or by myself (as long as I have company). I am very tolerant and have no aggression. I think kids are great, I’m awesome with strangersm, and I don’t really bark — I love everyone.

I am a big dufus who can sometimes forget just how strong I am, and I would not want to knock down your little ones, so a home with adults or older kids might be best. I’ve never been around cats (but have never shown aggression toward them), and on two occasions I was frightened by a loud, small dog I saw at a distance.

If you’ve made it this far (of course you have, I’m the best), here is my backstory: I lived outside, penned up, with no family of my own for over eight years. I’ve been living with my foster family for a few months, and I’ve learned that I absolutely love stuffed animals, soft doggy beds, sunning myself and walks, but now all I want is my own family and stability.

Could Bear be the cuddle bug for your home?

Meet Stone, an affectionate and active senior cat who loves to get pets on his rather robust tummy.

Here’s what Stone’s friends at Fancy Cats Rescue Team had to say about him:

Gotta love dem chonky boys. Stone is 15 pounds of love, fun and pure hamminess. He loves striking silly and super stinking cute poses so that you will give him attention and hopefully rub his copious tummy! An all around great guy, he is also an excellent litter box and scratch post user. Stone’s mom used to foster cats, so with a proper intro, this mellow dude will make a nice companion to another cat.

Given his age and stout physique, you’d think Stone lounges around a lot. Not really! He is actually prone to doing a couple of laps around the apartment before bedtime and absolutely loves to play fetch with hairbands. While 11-year-old Stone has been the perfect cat for years, his mom’s health issue is necessitating rehoming.

Email [email protected] for more information on Stone.

So what do you think, Sly, could this cat be your Family Stone?

Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. And no pup understands that better than Forrest Gump, a sweet and cuddly young boy who needs some TLC after being neglected by his previous owner.

Here’s what Forrest’s friends at PetConnect Rescue had to say about him:

Meet Forrest Gump! Forrest is 1 to 2 years old, 25 pounds and likely a Chihuahua/beagle cross. Forrest came from a horrible hoarding/neglect situation and was practically bald from mange.

Now Forrest is healthy; his hair has grown back, and he has learned to be loved on and petted. He is very devoted to his person and will follow you anywhere once he gets to know you. He would love to curl up on the couch or in bed with you. He also loves to play with other dogs and is so funny to watch scamper across the yard!

Forrest will need a patient adopter, preferably with a fenced-in yard, who will let Forrest get to know them and his new home. Forrest gains confidence with other dogs and would love a playmate but could do well as an only dog as well. He is housebroken and crate trained and eager to find a family to love!

Email [email protected] for more information on Forrest.

Could you be the Lieutenant Dan for this Forrest Gump? (Watching the film is recommended prior to adoption.)

Meet Lucy, Reston’s latest Pet of the Week. This 10-year-old sweetie is getting a second chance at life.

Here’s what she told her friends at Fancy Cats Rescue Team:

Hi! My name is Lucy, and I am a 10-year-old kitty looking for a new home! I was presented to a local hospital for euthanasia, but they gave me a second chance at life! I had a severe case of flea allergy dermatitis, which is now much better!

I love everyone I meet! I love to be rubbed and scratched. I give great head butts and will gladly spend my days at your side! I have gotten along with both dogs and cats in my current household. I am up to date on my vaccines.

Meet Brown Sugar, an aptly named, affectionate boy who loves to cuddle at your feet and try to curl up in your lap (though, at 60 pounds, he might not quite fit).

Here’s what his friends at PetConnect Rescue had to say about him.

Meet Brown Sugar! His name says it all… this very sweet and happy 2.5- to 3-year-old adult dog loves to hang out with his people. Sugar is about 60 pounds and has a gorgeous, rich reddish-brown coat with a spot of white on his chest and toes. Brown Sugar is adorable, happy, outgoing and loves to snuggle/get attention from his humans! While he settles down nicely to hang out with the family, he is also curious, energetic, loves to go for walks, play with his toys, and play with his ball and his people outside. He also knows some basic commands. Sugar will do best in an adult home (or possibly with young adults) who will continue to work on leash training. While he loves to meet children, he gets overstimulated and starts jumping/mouthing, which can be too much for them. He is an exceptionally smart dog who is very attentive to his people but needs a confident person to ensure he continues to develop into the well-behaved dog he can be all the time.

Brown Sugar found himself, through no fault of his own, in a rural North Carolina shelter. Poor Sugar did not understand why no one came to get him and he had lost the comforts of a home. PetConnect came to his rescue and has brought him to the Baltimore/DC area to find his new home that will adore him furever.

If you are looking for a companion who is a very sweet, happy dog that will greet you with butt wiggles and gentle “kisses,” Brown Sugar may be the one for you.

Meet Lentil, a fearless tiger mama who’s “bean” waiting to get pets in your lap.

Lentil’s friends at Fancy Cats Rescue Team shared a few words from this week girl.

Hi, my name is Lentil, and I am a beautiful, young, female brown and black tabby. I am part of the “Bean” family. I gave birth to three little beans 🙂 on May 1, 2021 — Pinto, Fava and Lima. Although I am obviously a mama, I am also VERY young at heart (and young in age as well, just about a year old). I play with my kittens all the time as if I am a kitten myself!

A little about me: I am very petite (about 6 pounds right now). I have a beautiful swirling tabby pattern all down my back. My foster mom says that I have been a fabulous mama, and I would love to be adopted with one of my kittens, as we play together so well! I am extremely sweet to my humans. I immediately purr when I am pet, and I love to be picked up and/or to be pet in your lap. I am also very adventurous. I love meeting new cats and playing with them in my foster home! Nothing seems to phase me or scare me!

Will you let us (myself and one of my babies) join your hearts and your home? We have “bean” waiting for you! Email [email protected] for more information.

Could Lentil be the cat for you?

Meet Ready Rufus, he has a knack for fashion and lives to charm the ladies… and men with his sweet, playful personality.

Here’s what his friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue say about him:

Rufus is confused. He is cute, right? He loves people. He is always happy to see other dogs — so why has he not found his family yet? He’s done everything right — completed agility courses in record time, gone in the swimming pool and looked cool while doing it, and has been nice to everyone he has met.

He loves toys. (Give him a Kong or a bone, and he’ll be occupied for hours. Give him a peanut butter-filled kong, and he is in doggie heaven.) He takes treats ever so gently from your hand. He loves to snuggle and bury his head into your chest — his way of showing how much love he has to give and how appreciative he is for attention. He’s even competed in our summer event competition as Jimmy Buffet’s sidekick (see primary picture). He is hopeful that maybe the suave, debonair approach might work. (See how handsome he is in the green hat?) I mean this boy is up for anything! Yes, Rufus has many “looks,” but only one sweet, funny personality.

If you would like this handsome, people-pleasing dude bringing all these talents with him — promising endless fun and laughter (yes, he thinks he is a comedian also) — let us know! Lots of personality with this boy! Rufus is 70 pounds and is 2 years old. He is neutered and up to date on all his shots. I mean, this pup is the whole package!

Rufus carries an adoption fee of $389, which includes his microchip. This attractive, affectionate guy is going to bring lots of joy to some lucky adopters, so don’t delay, get your application in to his coordinator at my email below [email protected].

Are you ready for Ready Rufus to join your pack?

Meet Meghan, a 3-year-old Maine coon mix who’s having a hard time adjusting to shelter life and is ready to find her forever home.

Here’s what her friends at Fancy Cats Rescue Team had to say about her:

Meghan is a gray-and-white female domestic medium-hair mix. She is approximately 3 years, 3 months old. She has been spayed.

Poor Meghan is a little confused and having trouble adjusting to shelter life. She’s a very shy kitty at first but is said to be very affectionate once she warms up to you. She is a playful kitty who loves to play with toys, especially fake mice and on cat towers! She is already litter-box trained.

She previously lived with four other cats, a small dog and children and did well with all of it, though she could be timid around the other kitties.

Meet Sweet Scooter, Reston’s newest Pet of the Week! Sweet Scooter is just that — sweet! Found as a stray, he was initially shy around humans, but now his personality is blossoming.

Here’s what else his friends at Safe Haven Puppy Rescue had to say about him:

Sweet Scooter! He’s the cat’s pajamas!

This guy came to us as a stray and though a little shy at first has really blossomed! He is good friends with his buddy Joyful Julio (who is also available for adoption), and he has really shown him how terrific and wonderful people are! Now this boy wants to romp and play and definitely loves his attention! They are so cute!

Currently, Scooter is about 21 pounds and may gain a few more but won’t get much bigger. Our best guess is that he is a corgi mix and overall just a sweet guy.

Reston’s latest Pet of the Week is Odie, who may be shy at first but will quickly warm up and become a purr machine.

Here’s what her friends at Fancy Cats Rescue Team had to say about her:

Odie might be a little shy to start but with some head and neck scritches, she’ll warm up right away! She is a real purr machine and will want to be near you all the time. She will be a gentle companion to any family (older kids are best). Odie is friendly with other cats, too!

Are you and Odie the perfect match?
